How to Play One-Hole Washers

How to Play One-Hole Washers

Washers is a simple backyard game that is easy to learn and fun to play with friends and family. The goal is to toss your washers toward the board and score points by landing them in the hole, leaning on the cup, or getting closest to the hole.

To play, set up two washer boards facing each other. The front edges of the boards should be 12 - 14 feet apart. The game can be played with two players or four players. In a four-player game, each team has one player standing at each board.

Each player throws three washers per round. Players take turns tossing their washers toward the opposite board. After all washers are thrown, only one team scores for that round.

Scoring is simple:

A washer in the hole is worth 3 points.

A leaner is worth 2 points.

The closest washer to the hole is worth 1 point.

If both teams land washers in the hole, those washers cancel each other out. If no washers are in the hole, the team with the closest washer scores. A team can score up to 9 points in one round.

The first team to reach exactly 21 points wins. If a team goes over 21, they bust and go back down to 11.

Some rules may change depending on where you play. For example, some groups count washers that bounce onto the board, while others do not. The most important thing is to agree on the rules before the game starts.

Whether you are playing at a tailgate, in the backyard, or during a family tournament, washers is a fun and competitive game that anyone can pick up quickly.
